The Stroke and Vascular-intervention (SVIN) Unit at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram has been honored with Diamond Award by the World Stroke Organisation (WSO). This is the first time that any hospital in Haryana has received this award for its seamless and integrated healthcare services in this field, making them the leading healthcare provider in the country to provide the best stroke treatment.

Having a stringent quality evaluation process, the WSO parameters for choosing the best unit considers the number of patients treated within 60 minutes of door to needle time, number of patients treated within 120 minutes of door to groin time, number of patients treated within 45 minutes of door to needle time, stroke patients treated in a dedicated stroke unit or ICU.

“We are happy to receive this award as our aim to provide the best healthcare services has been in sync with the International Standards. On this occasion, I congratulate the whole team who have worked towards achieving such high-level quality measures in such tough times. We are committed to save lives. Since time is of utmost essence in treating stroke patients, team coordination is very important. Along with technology and expertise, we have excellent team coordination to facilitate such patients.” Said Dr Vipul Gupta, Director – Neurointervention, Stroke and Vascular-intervention (SVIN) Unit at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram

The team has also recently developed a ‘Drip and Ship ‘model in and around Haryana to curb such instances by providing primary treatment within the golden hours at a peripheral hospital, and plans to soon expand Nationally. In fact Artemis Hospital is the only hospital in the region who has got dedicated stroke neurology team that concentrate only on acute stroke, and also provide round the clock neurointervention services.

WSO Diamond Category Awards are rewarded to hospitals or stroke units around the globe, for outstanding quality in acute stroke treatment with impeccable quality monitoring practices. The Award encourages teams and individuals to be committed to provide effective and timely stroke management that includes timely saving of lives and minimizing risk of other health complexities.

“The sudden rise in stroke cases can be because of many reasons but one major reason is due to adoption of unhealthy and poor lifestyle choices which is why it has now become the need of the hour to provide the best healthcare services in the least possible time. Most of the time, early and proper treatment is not provided to the patient due to the unavailability of a patient transport, hence resulting in death. Our drip and ship method has also been of tremendous significance in providing the stroke patients with better chances of revival at the nearest centre, and our team’s coordination with them helps in the timely procedure. Early and prompt treatment can help reverse or prevent damage to the patient’s brain. Being a doctor and a premium healthcare provider in the country, it is our responsibility to provide the best healthcare services to the patients.” Said Dr Raj Srinivas Parthasarathy, Stroke Neurology & Neurointervention Surgery, Stroke and Vascular-intervention (SVIN) Unit at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram

Stroke has become one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in India in the last few years. Although timely treatment can prevent damage caused to the brain it has been estimated that around 1.8 million people suffer from stroke every year but only 1% are able to reach on time to a hospital to get the required treatment.
