Held at Fortune Murali Park, the session brought together over 50 APCRDA officials for a deep dive into the concepts and practices of IGBC Green Building Rating Systems. The programme aimed to empower government departments to lead by example in implementing green building norms across all upcoming infrastructure developments.

Delivering the keynote address, Sri K Kanna Babu, I.A.S., Commissioner, APCRDA, emphasized the strategic importance of sustainable development in urban planning. He said,
“Andhra Pradesh is fully committed to building a sustainable future, with Amaravati envisioned as a model green capital. We are taking decisive steps to ensure that every project under APCRDA integrates sustainable design and green building principles. As a testament to this commitment, we aim to achieve green and Net Zero building certification for the upcoming APCRDA Head Office in Amaravati. This flagship project will serve as a demonstration and inspiration for all future developments in the region. IGBC’s guidance and collaboration remain crucial in our journey towards achieving Net Zero status by 2040.”

The event also featured remarks by Mr. Vijay Sai Meka, Chairman, IGBC Amaravati Chapter, who said,
“The APCRDA team has shown exemplary leadership by adopting IGBC Green Ratings in its key developments. This collaboration stands as a model for how public agencies and green building councils can work together to drive measurable environmental impact.”

Andhra Pradesh has been at the forefront of promoting sustainable urbanization by integrating green building principles into its regulatory and planning frameworks. Through policy support, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement, the state is encouraging both public and private sector projects to adopt environmentally responsible practices. Amaravati, envisioned as a model green capital, achieved a significant milestone in 2018 when its Master Plan—IGBC certified by design—was awarded the IGBC Green Cities ‘Platinum’ Rating during the Happy Cities Summit. In recognition of this, the Honourable Chief Minister, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, was felicitated for showcasing Andhra Pradesh’s long-term commitment to building resilient, resource-efficient, and liveable cities for future generations. Today, flagship APCRDA projects such as the Integrated State Secretariat, HoD offices, and Happy Nest, along with numerous private developments, are actively pursuing IGBC Green Building certifications.

Through its MoU with APCRDA, IGBC has been organizing regular training and awareness sessions to support the state’s green transformation. Mr. Ganesh Sai Chaitanya Gali, Co-Chair of the IGBC Amaravati Chapter, and Mr. Kiran Kumar Paruchuri, Executive Vice President of NAREDCO, have both emphasized the significant role the upcoming Green Andhra Summit, scheduled for August 7, 2025, will play in accelerating the Green & Net Zero Building movement in Andhra Pradesh. Speaking at the event, Mr. Sundeep V, Senior Counsellor, IGBC, reaffirmed IGBC’s commitment to being a knowledge and implementation partner in Andhra Pradesh’s sustainability journey.

The programme is part of IGBC’s ongoing efforts to build capacity, strengthen awareness, and encourage wide-scale adoption of green practices among public and private stakeholders, further cementing Andhra Pradesh’s position as a leader in sustainable development.
