Experts Urge Couples to Seek Clarity Before Treatment, Understanding Why Comes Before How

New Delhi, 30th July 2025: leading gynaecologists and fertility experts are calling for a shift in mindset—urging couples to prioritise understanding the causes of infertility before rushing into advanced treatments like IVF. As awareness around assisted reproductive technologies continues to grow, medical professionals are encouraging people to start their journey with clarity, consultation, and compassion.

While IVF has become one of the most transformative innovations in modern medicine, experts caution that it should not be seen as the first step for every couple struggling to conceive. In the rush to find answers, many bypass the most fundamental question: why is conception taking longer than expected? The answer, doctors say, cannot be found in internet searches or over-the-counter supplements. It begins in a gynecologist’s office—through conversation, examination, and careful diagnosis.

According to Dr.Yashica Gudesar
Director and unit head Obgy max dwarka “The first step for any couple is not treatment—it’s understanding. IVF is a powerful tool, but not everyone needs it. Sometimes the issue is simple and treatable. The journey to parenthood must begin with a conversation, not a prescription.”

Infertility can stem from a variety of causes, including irregular ovulation, thyroid imbalances, PCOS, or male factor issues. In many cases, lifestyle, stress, and age also play significant roles. A gynecologist’s role extends far beyond prescribing tests—they are trusted partners who take into account a person’s medical history, emotional well-being, and future goals. This early stage of evaluation often helps identify less invasive or simpler interventions that may be effective before exploring options like IVF.

Despite growing openness, IVF still carries a heavy emotional and societal burden. Many view it as a last resort or associate it with failure. However, medical professionals emphasize that IVF is not a measure of desperation, but of hope—when pursued at the right time, for the right reasons. What makes the difference is not the availability of technology, but the timing and context in which it is used.

Doctors also highlight the importance of not delaying consultation.

Dr. Astha Dayal
Director Obstetrics and Gynecology, CK Birla Hospital Gurgaon
Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgeon “ Couples under 35 are advised to seek medical guidance if they’ve been trying for more than a year, while those over 35 should consider visiting a specialist after six months. In cases of known health conditions or irregular cycles, even earlier engagement is recommended”

This IVF Day, the larger message from India’s fertility specialists is one of empowerment. Rather than fearing the unknown, couples are encouraged to seek answers early. Starting with a gynecologist or reproductive expert helps lay a solid foundation—one that is rooted in science, support, and transparency.
