NIU organizes a vision screening camp during World Optometry Week

Noida, India, April 2, 2024, The Department of Optometry at Noida International University’s School of Allied Health Sciences announces the successful organization of a vision screening camp in celebration of World Optometry Week, with this year’s theme “Advancing Optometry’s Commitment to Global Eye Care” as declared by the World Council of Optometry. In line with this global campaign, the Department of Optometry takes proactive initiatives to raise eye health awareness among students.

The vision screening camp, hosted in the refraction lab, invited students from all disciplines at the university. More than 200 students participated in the program, which included refraction and anterior ocular health exams. 31 students were found to have uncorrected refractive defects, whereas 26 were diagnosed with non-strabismic binocular abnormalities. This highlights the important necessity for such initiatives to address eye health concerns early on.

Under the leadership of the Organizing Chairperson, Prof. (Dr.) Supriya Awasthi, Head of the School, said- “The Department of Optometry expresses its gratitude to all participants and volunteers for their enthusiastic support in making the vision screening camp a resounding success. Such initiatives underline our commitment to improving eye care and ensuring everyone has the best vision possible.

A major highlight of the event was the presence of thirteen optometry students who offered their time and expertise, demonstrating their commitment to promoting eye health in their community.
