Over 500 Pledge to donate Organs at Nanavati Max Hospital’s Citywide Awareness Drive

Mumbai, August 11, 2025: Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, in collaboration with the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC) of Maharashtra, organised an event on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day by unveiling one of the largest organ donation pledge walls at the iconic Juhu Beach.
The event witnessed participation from over 500 people, including eminent community members, doctors, healthcare professionals, NGOs, educational institutions, and various community groups from across Mumbai, shedding light on the significance of World Organ Donation Day.
The event aimed to create awareness about the life-saving impact of organ donation.  Dr Samir R. Shah, Chairman, Hepatology & Liver Intensive Care, Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai, set the tone for the event by emphasizing the importance of organ donation.
“Public awareness of cadaveric organ donation is vital to expand the availability of well-matched liver, pancreas, and intestinal grafts. When the match is ideal, transplant surgeries are simpler, recovery time is shorter, and patients can return to normal life much faster. Initiatives like this don’t just raise awareness, they also bring a change in the mindset of people and save lives,” said Dr Shah.
Dr S. K. Mathur, President, ZTCC, lauded the initiative, stating, “This landmark event symbolizes Maharashtra’s dedication to the cause of organ donation. The active participation of the community and healthcare providers will undoubtedly bolster our ongoing efforts and inspire more people to pledge their organs and reduce the huge burden of fatalities due to end-stage organ failure.”
Dr Vivek TalaulikarDirector & Chief Operating Officer, Western Region, Max Healthcare, concluded the event by saying, “One healthy donor can save up to many lives. Organ failure continues to be an escalating public health challenge, and awareness is the first step towards saving lives. Today’s overwhelming response is a powerful testament to the community’s will to make a difference.”
The event also featured informative talks by renowned transplant specialists who educated attendees about organ donation procedures, transplant success stories, and the crucial role of public participation. Adding to the impactful atmosphere was an engaging entertainment program, which brought together purpose and celebration in equal measure.
