New Delhi, June 3: The Election Commission of India (ECI) hosted a global-level meeting focused on strengthening electoral integrity and addressing the growing challenges posed by digital misinformation in elections.

The discussions brought together election management bodies, policy experts, and technology stakeholders to explore collaborative strategies for safeguarding democratic processes in an increasingly digital environment.

Key areas of focus included the spread of fake news on social media platforms, the impact of artificial intelligence-driven content manipulation, and the need for robust verification systems to ensure accurate voter information. Participants also deliberated on best practices for improving transparency, strengthening institutional resilience, and enhancing voter awareness.

Officials highlighted that digital platforms have transformed the electoral landscape, offering both opportunities for voter engagement and new risks related to misinformation and coordinated influence campaigns. The need for international cooperation and shared technological solutions was emphasised as critical to addressing these emerging challenges.

The ECI reiterated its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections by adopting technology-driven safeguards and continuously upgrading its monitoring mechanisms. The global dialogue is expected to help build a consensus on ethical digital practices and strengthen electoral systems worldwide.
