Pune, July 23rd 2025: Samarpan Recovery, India’s premier residential rehabilitation centre, marked a milestone at the renowned UK/European Symposium on Addictive Disorders (UKESAD) in London recently. Representing Samarpan Recovery were Martin Peters, Chief Operations Officer, and Obi Unaka, Chief Clinical Officer, who delivered a powerful talk on ‘Implementing Evidence-Based Addiction Treatment in a Culturally Sensitive Setting’, a topic that is at the very heart of Samarpan Recovery’s mission and ethos.
In recognition of their pioneering contributions to advancing addiction treatment in India, both leaders, Martin Peters and Obi Unaka, were honoured with the prestigious “Treatment Pioneers of the Year” award at the DB Recovery + McLean Hospital Awards Night. The award acknowledges their work in launchingIndia’s first internationally accredited (CARF, CENAPS) residential rehab facility and their dedication to delivering compassionate, person-centred care.
Commenting on the recognition, Martin Peters, Chief Operating Officer, Samarpan Recovery, said, “Myself and Obi were thrilled to attend UKESAD, an event that both of us have attended previously — Obi first in 2006 and myself in 2011. It was a fabulous event of networking and education, with so many recognised treatment providers in attendance. A real highlight was receiving the ‘Treatment Pioneers’ award in front of our peers. We’re already looking forward to attending next year, supporting the event, and reconnecting with friends — old and new.”
This recognition is an important affirmation of Samarpan’s mission to bring evidence-based world-class addiction treatment to India, aligned with compassion and cultural competency. The team is dedicated to upholding international best practices, enhancing its clinical model, learning, growing, and ensuring every person experiences individualised person-centred care on their recovery journey.
As one of the world’s most respected addiction recovery conferences, the UKESAD convenes leading clinicians, organisations, and thought leaders to foster collaboration and advancement in treatment standards. Samarpan’s participation further cements its role as a leading voice in modern, evidence-based addiction recovery, tailored to meet the unique needs of culturally diverse populations.
