Empowering Women: Wockhardt Hospitals' Scarless Triumph for Health and Confidence

HealthAdmin24 Dec 2025

Mumbai, Dec 24: For a 26-year-old young girl, a routine health concern turned unexpectedly serious when a persistent neck discomfort was found to be a follicular thyroid nodule. The medical part was straightforward; she needed surgery. The emotional part wasn’t.

Most thyroid surgeries leave a long, visible scar across the front of the neck. For a young woman stepping into some of the most important years of her life  personally, socially, professionally — the thought of a permanent mark in such a visible area was distressing.

“Her fear was very real,” recalls Dr. Amol Wagh, Consultant General & Laparoscopic Surgery, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central. “She kept touching her neck every time we discussed the surgery. It wasn’t vanity it was about confidence, identity, and the life she envisioned for herself.”

To ensure she would never have to carry that worry, Dr. Wagh offered a modern alternative: endoscopic thyroidectomy through the axilla. Instead of operating on the neck, he created three tiny 5 mm ports through the underarm, allowing the entire procedure to be performed without leaving any visible neck scar.

The surgery was minimally invasive, involved significantly reduced blood loss, and allowed for quicker recovery. But for her, the real healing happened when she looked in the mirror after the procedure and saw no scar where she had feared one the most.

“Preserving her thyroid health was important,” Dr. Wagh added, “but preserving her confidence was equally important. She deserved both.”

Today, she is recovering well stepping back into her life with her health protected and her self-assurance intact. Her story shows how modern surgical innovation can safeguard not just the body, but a young person’s sense of self.
