New Delhi, January 2023: KL Deemed-to-be-University, India’s Leading University, has announced that its research team led by Dr. SK Chand Basha has proposed a novel hypothetical mechanism in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). This team proposed TREM2-based novel pathophysiological mechanisms as the promising therapeutic strategies for future research in Alzheimer’s disease. The team’s proposed hypothesis in the review paper has been accepted by the coveted international medical journal– Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease (JAD) and Dr. SK Chand Basha has been invited to become associate editor of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease (JAD).
The prestigious Journal JAD has accepted to publish the work of Dr. Basha titled, “Untangling the role of TREM2 in conjugation with Microglia in neuronal dysfunction: An hypothesis on a novel pathway in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD)” in Q1 journal with an impact factor of 4.160. Dr. Basha has been working as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow (PDF) in the department of Biotechnology under the guidance of his mentor Prof. Janaki Ramaiah, Professor and Prof. Jagannatha Rao, Pro Chancellor from KL Deemed to be University.

The research explores a very important factor about how Alzheimer’s disease is the chief cause of dementia. As per World Alzheimer report 2018,currently, about 50 million people across the globe are affected with AD. Going by the current trend and with no major treatment available at the medical facilities across the world, the number of affected people may rise to 152 million globally by the year 2050. Despite the ongoing research and years of exploration in this direction, still, the reasons for AD are not known to medical experts, phycologists, and pharmaceutical research units. However, it has been established by many previous pieces of research that aging is the biggest risk factor and the disease intensifies with age.
This KL Research team proposed TREM2-based novel pathophysiological mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease. TREM2 is a surface receptor of microglial cells which help to clean the dead cells in the brain. This receptor also reduces AD-specific proteins like amyloids. The research team proposed that TREM2-based therapeutic strategies would be promising avenues for future research.
