Skin protection is an important part of having beautiful and smooth skin and avoiding the many harmful effects of sun exposure. Due to the ultraviolet (UV) radiation emitted by the sun, an emphasis needs to be laid on safety measures, such as applying sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) and UV protection, to keep our skin safe from the sun’s harmful effects.

The primary aim of sun care is to protect the skin from negative UV radiation impacts like sun-burning, premature aging as well as a rise in skin cancer. UV radiation is composed of UVA and UVB rays, and two of them can penetrate the skin and do damage to the cells. Ultraviolet A rays, are linked to the appearance of wrinkles and also bring about fine lines, while UVB rays are the major cause of skin burning and melanoma. People will mostly protected from sunburn and skin cancer by just using sunscreen that has SPF and UV protection because a blocker to the sun’s harmful rays will be created.

SPF is a numerical value assigned to a sunscreen that shows the ratio by which the sunscreen can screen the effect of UVB rays, which are mainly responsible for sunburn and skin cancer. The SPF value specifies the levels of a sunscreen to protect from UVB radiation. The higher SPFs are indicators of sprays that offer more protection. Example: a sunscreen that has SPF 30 blocks nearly 97% of UVB rays, and a sunscreen with SPF 50 blocks just around 98% of UVB rays. When a sunscreen with a high SPF value is selected, people can build sun resistance and lower the probability of suffering from skin cancer and sunburns. Besides SPF, one of the important factors to consider is whether the sunscreen provides full spectrum protection or not (i.e., it should protect against both UVA and UVB rays).

Broad-spectrum sunscreen products use technology that provides a wide range of UV spectrum skin protection and allows the prevention of harmful effects of sunburns, premature skin age, and cancer development. In cases of choosing a sunscreen, it is necessary to take into consideration products that include
‘broad-spectrum’ as it is an indicator of their high-quality protection.

Wearing proper sunscreen should be part of everyone’s daily skincare routine, to have healthy skin and avoid sun-related damage. People should put sunscreen liberally on all the body parts that may be uncovered like the face, neck, arms, and legs before stepping out anytime. The best method is to apply a new coat of sunscreen every two hours, especially after an activity in the water, sweat, or drying out the skin. Not only is sunscreen important for summer sun protection, but also several other measures like wearing protective clothing such as wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and long-sleeved shirts should be taken to
reduce UV exposure further.

In brief, sun protection is an indispensable factor for the prevention of skin deterioration and skin cancer risk development. Through the use of sunscreen with SPF and UV blocking features, people can protect their skin from UV harm and hence, the risk of sunburn, rapid aging, and skin cancer can be reduced.

Adopting sun protection practices in skincare routines and putting on some protective clothing will also help improve the skin and advance healthy living. With an understanding that sun protection is becoming significant, people can now be proactive and protective of their skin, so that they will be able to spend time under the sun in a safe way.
